For our next spotlight, we interviewed Jeremy Larson, ReadiTech Engineering’s Senior Network Engineer!

Read Jeremy’s answers below!
Question 1: Can you tell us about your career journey?
“I graduated from North Dakota State University with an electrical engineering degree in 2000. After graduation, I worked for another consulting firm for seven years. I then realized that I wanted to live in the mountains, so I moved to Wyoming and worked there until 2015 when I moved again, to Colorado and worked out there until 2021. I started working for ReadiTech Engineering in 2021. I actually left our company in 2022 to pursue another opportunity, but then ultimately decided to come back in early 2024.”
Follow-Up Question: What made you come back to ReadiTech Engineering?
“Dustin. After I thought hard enough about it, I realized that he was the best boss I had ever worked for. That is why I came back.”
Question 2: What inspired you to pursue a career in engineering?
“I grew up as an electrician, so I was going down a non-engineering path but then decided to follow my brother to NDSU who was also pursuing a degree in electrical engineering. My dad kind of pushed us all into engineering, it was always a passion of mine but with my dad and brothers influence, this is where I ended up”
Question 3: What are some of the most significant projects you’ve worked on?
“One of the first projects I worked on at ReadiTech was covering 48,000 people in upper Michigan with a FCC RDOF (Rural Digital Opportunity Fund) project. That was a huge project because I knew how much it effected the people of upper Michigan”
Question 4: How do you stay up to date with the latest trends and technologies in engineering?
“I constantly consume data. I read everything I possibly can on everything I possibly can on different trends. I read RFC, articles, press releases, documentation from vendors, all of it. I consume all the nerdy data, like how to provision the routers, how to design the fibers, new trends in microfiber… I am constantly learning! Also, Dustin and I go to a lot of shows where we can see what the industry is doing as a whole as well.
Fun Fact: In order to maintain licensure in all 29 states, Jeremy is required by law to learn for, in most cases, 40 hours every two years!
Question 5: What do you enjoy most about your job?
“Right now, it is building networks. The idea of the end result when bringing something from design to construction, to building something that actually delivers internet to people that is what makes me the most excited. Being able to provide internet or transport to people who deserve a better solution and producing that is what I enjoy most.”
We hope you enjoyed getting to know Jeremy, stay tuned for our next spotlight in March!
